We have an immediate need for a Payroll Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION
Determine proper processing for payroll transactions being added to the system
Establish and assign appropriate coding to ensure compatibility with the system and proper distribution of payroll transactions affecting wages, salaries and/or deductions
Maintain master code file for control purposes
Prepare computer data sheets reflecting deductions and other wage payments according to local labor agreements, salaried and hourly policy and government requirements
May compute checks to be written manually for payrolls and adjustments such as: late starts, terminations, death benefits, etc
Prepare related journal vouchers, tax and other reports for payrolls
Control monthly accumulated vacation pay for payroll through IS group
Work closely with IS group supplying them with employee deduction information such as exemptions, tax deductions for Federal, State and City income tax withholding and State disability and unemployment withholding where necessary, savings bonds, credit union, etc
May maintain pension files on the computer for appropriate withholding and reporting to Benefits Department
Reconcile monthly file to payroll withholding per fund direction
Analyze computer output by comparing to the information input into the system, and determine reasons for discrepancies and method to make correction
May assist and instruct other personnel in carrying out payroll duties
Assign work and review results for accuracy
Handle payroll accounting records and prepares weekly, monthly and annual salaried/hourly pensions, group insurance, L.T.D
insurance, and control and balance check registers and payroll distribution
May process various accounting forms and generate various summaries and reports for the general accounting function
Ensure timely response to all computer-generated report requests. Abide by all facility safety guidelines and quality procedures
Performs other job duties as assigned
